How can I give?
Lending a hand
There are many opportunities including:
- Helping a charity to support & advise people or assist around the office
- Getting involved in protecting the environment
- Supporting children & young people at clubs
- Assisting older people & the disabled
What's Involved?
Whatever your background, skills or abilities, there is a charity or organisation that needs you.
If you can spare from as little as 2 hours a month - there is a volunteer placement to suit you.
What could I do?
There are many ways in which you can volunteer:
Working with Children & young people:
- in youth clubs
- in playgroups & holiday play schemes
- in creches
- with the Youth Enquiry Service

Helping the homeless
Working with people who need extra help:
- in clubs and day centres
- using special skills such as sport or art
- visiting & befriending
- giving practical advice and information
Working with older people:
- visiting & befriending
- driving and shopping
- delivering Meals on Wheels
Working with animals:
- handling, feeding and caring for animals

Counselling and advice:
- caring for people in distress
- helping sort out practical difficulties

Volunteer helping with a garden
Working in hospitals or hospices:
- visiting and befriending
- helping in reception or the office
- serving in the tea bar
Working outdoors on conservation projects
- helping with local projects
- working with young people at a field study centre
Administration and office work:
- word processing
- computer data entry or other computer work
- answering telephone calls
Helping with adult education:
- working with people who have difficulty reading and writing
- teaching English as a foreign language
